1/2 stick butter
6 tablespoons shortening
1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
8 ounces chocolate syrup
2 1/2 cup sifted flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon anise extract
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Blend butter and shortening until smooth. Add sugar, beat in eggs and blend in chocolate syrup and extract. Once all blended, add dry ingredients and lastly stir in nuts. Refrigerate dough several hours or overnight
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Roll dough into small balls. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Allow to cool.
When cool, use ginger cream frosting recipe for glaze and allow to set before serving.
