Everything you wanted to know about wine…but were too afraid to ask!
Join one of our favorite food columnists, the ever-charming, fun and funny Rick Kushman of The Sacramento Bee’s “Good Life” fame, for a Wine 101 class aptly named “Why Wine is More Fun Than People Make it Seem.” And, yes, you get to taste wine!
You won’t want to miss this class for “regular folks” – though wine buffs will get something from it, too – which Rick promises will be taught in English, not intimidating winespeak. We love that.
He’ll cover some big things and some small things to help make a tasting trip or just drinking wine even more enjoyable. And, did we mention that you get to taste wine?
The class is only $25 at Lava Cap Winery (near Placerville) on Saturday June 19, 1-2:30 p.m. Details and signups at www.lavacap.com. Have fun!
Wordless Wednesday: I Preferiti di Boriana, San Francisco
Bomboloni from I Preferiti di Boriana at the San Francisco Ferry Building.
Weekend Line-up
Looking for something fun to do this weekend? This is one weekend when you won’t have any trouble filling up your schedule!
6th annual Davis BeerFest
Stop by the 6th annual Davis BeerFest, hosted by Citizens Who Care for the Elderly, on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Sudwerk Brewery in Davis. Tickets will be $40 at the door, or plan ahead and save some money by buying them in advance for $35 at Sudwerk Brewery, the Citizens Who Care office, or online through Paypal. Tickets for those always-necessary designated drivers are only $10 and include everything but the beer.
The afternoon will feature tastings of more than 100 beers from over 30 breweries, a tour of Sudwerk, a raffle and silent auction, traditional German sausages (veggie sausage will also be available) provided by Nugget Market, talks with traditional brew masters, and of course, live music.
Take a load off and induldge in some good food & drink, music and vibes. More information about the festival can be found online.
Raley’s Grape Escape
If you’re still feeling peckish and perhaps a bit thirsty after the Davis BeerFest, grab your DD and head to downtown Sacramento for Raley’s Grape Escape!
Raley’s Grape Escape will run from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at Cesar Chavez Park in downtown Sacramento. The festival will feature wine sampling from more than 50 Sacramento-area wineries, tasty treats from more than 30 local restaurants and a Chef’s Challenge when four local chefs will go head-to-head in a two-round battle with only a basket of ingredients to work with!
Purchase your tickets for $50 at the door, online for $40, or stop by your nearest Raley’s & Bel-Air store by noon on Saturday to get yours for $35. More information about the festival can be found online.
