When I sat down at my desk one morning and the first email that popped up was from Yogurtagogo notifying me that I had won $100 worth of frozen yogurt catering, I knew it was going to be a good day. Right away I checked in with my fellow SacFoodies to discuss timing for the special delivery and we decided it would be perfect for celebrating fellow SacFoodie Sarah’s December birthday.
On the appointed day, Sara from Yogurtagogo arrived bearing a bevy of frozen yogurt (chocolate, raspberry pomegranate, pumpkin and peppermint!), toppings and even samples of a new creation: hot sesame and peanut butter flavored mochi (Japanese rice candy, often used as a frozen yogurt topping). Yogurtagogo hopes to start offering hot mochi in the store this winter.
Eric Heffel, President of Yogurtagogo, also filled us in about another little-known Yogurtagogo treat, their new whole food smoothies. As Eric explains, “We started these because we thought they dovetailed nicely with the healthful aspect of frozen yogurt, but they take healthy to a whole new level. I LOVE the fresh, wholesome flavors of our smoothies.”
Frozen yogurt catering, hot mochi and whole food smoothies – who knew you could find all this and more at Yogurtagogo? Now we’ve got a whole new set of ideas when it comes to catering for future staff meetings and birthday parties!
Thank you Yogurtagogo, from all the SacFoodies!

Two Things That Go Together: Christmas Trees and Wine
Last weekend I ventured with my boyfriend and his parents to Placerville, Calif., to cut down our Christmas trees and do some wine tasting – because you can’t go to Placerville and not stop at a few of the wineries scattered along the highway.
After spending two and a half (yes, two and half) hours searching the same tree farm for the perfect “pole trees,” we nearly gave up on the wine tasting adventure because we were all hungry for lunch. That is, until I convinced our group stopping at the winery right down the road from the tree farm would be worth it. Then one winery turned into two, then three, then four.
Most wineries close at 5 p.m. on Sundays, so our fourth stop was a bit unplanned. I used my phone to find wineries close by and Bumgarner Winery popped up – and it had great Yelp reviews. For being the last (and unplanned) stop on our wine tour, it was definitely our favorite!
When we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised that the winemakers themselves, Brian and Jennifer Bumgarner, were doing the tasting. He recommended that we do the “Vertical Flight,” which involved tasting his Cabernet Sauvignon from 2008, 2007, 2006 and 2005. Brian explained that each wine was made using grapes from the same vineyard but they all had a unique taste. My personal favorite was the 2007, which we happily purchased. Now, having an underdeveloped wine palate, one might not take my opinion to heart; however, my boyfriend’s parents are wine enthusiasts and loved the Bumgarner wines so much that they signed up for their wine club.
An interesting thing to point out about Bumgarner Winery is that there are some wines on tap, so customers can bring back bottles and have them refilled for a discount. It is definitely an excuse to take another trip to Placerville!

Mayahuel
Sometimes there is no better way to close out the week than with a good happy hour. My current favorite? Mayahuel.
On the corner of 12th and K in Downtown Sacramento, Mayahuel serves up some delicious eats and drinks during their Happy Hour, Monday-Friday from 2-6 p.m.
Whether it’s beer, wine, mojitos or margaritas, Mayahuel has a wide selection of drinks on special. For my drink selection, although not on the happy hour menu, I chose the Asi Sabe Mexico – a cocktail made from fresh watermelon, lime, cucumber, and tequila with a Tajin chile rim. Every sip was completely refreshing and delicious.
The real star of the show was the Canao de Ceververde de camaron appetizer. This tasty selection includes two slices of cucumber topped with a mixture of salsa, fruit, chile, fresh cilantro and lime infused shrimp.
Take my word for it and add Mayahuel to your list of happy hour destinations!

Drewski’s Hot Rod Kitchen
I can summarize this post in four delicious words: Grilled. Cheese. Food. Truck. Enough said? Perhaps, but Drewski’s Hot Rod Kitchen (well, kitchen on wheels) isn’t serving up just any ol’ grilled cheese sandwiches.
From the “Hemi” with slow roasted pulled pork and mac ‘n’ cheese to the “Mustang” with Korean braised beef, kimchi and Sriracha aioli, and the simple but satisfying “Tricylcle” with Cheddar, Swiss and Havarti cheeses, it seems they offer a grilled cheese for every palate. Plus, for $3 you can also grab a satisfying (read: large portion size) side dish – we tried the Sweet Potato Fries and Drewski’s Famous Tots.
Now, this isn’t the first food truck to come to our neighborhood, and we’ve been following Sacramento’s food truck frenzy closely, but a grilled cheese food truck parked on our block will always be a welcome sight for this foodie.
