Hawks Public House, which opened last year, sits on an unassuming corner on Alhambra Blvd. Drive by and you may not even notice it – but if you’re in need of a bite, I’d suggest venturing out of midtown and stopping in. I’ve been in for both dinner and brunch and enjoyed both the casual atmosphere and tasty drinks and eats. (Tip: No wait for a table at brunch and there’s ample parking!)
Here are four reasons to try Hawks Public House:
- Spaghetti Carbonara. With an egg on it. For brunch.
You read that right! Dining with girlfriends a few weeks back, we had to try this dish. We left wondering why pasta with eggs and bacon hadn’t made its way to brunch menus sooner.
- The drink selection.
The SacFoodies love local breweries and you can select from offerings from quite a few at the bar at Hawks. Beers from New Helvetia, Bike Dog, Device, Sactown Union and Jackrabbit have all made appearances on the draft list. And don’t miss the Michelada at brunch. Did I mention they also offer mimosa kits?
- Back to the food: Lobster. Roll.
If I see a lobster roll on a menu, I must order it. Alas, I was so excited about said lobster roll that I neglected to photograph it, but you can feast your eyes on it here on the Hawks Instagram. Served on a housemade brioche roll, it really could not get any yummier.
- Croque Monsieur, may I have another?
On my most recent Hawks visit, my friends and I also enjoyed the Croque Monsieur. It’s hard to go wrong when you think about cheesy bread (yes, inside and out) coupled with thinly sliced ham on fresh bread.
