If the best things come in small packages, there’s perhaps no smaller package quite as good as the shack-like building directly behind Thomas Keller’s restaurant ad hoc in Yountville. Formally known as addendum, the bite-size establishment is home to some of the biggest flavors I’ve ever experienced. As a Northern California girl, I’m mildly ashamed to admit that my first trip to Yountville was just a few weeks back. But better late than never, right? When a friend convinced me to make the quick trip from San Francisco to Yountville for a sunny lunch outing, I didn’t quite know what to expect. What I found, much to my delight, was a quaint and charming place chock-full of impressive food and drink. Enter, addendum.
My friend prepped me for the trip by explaining that addendum is known for its finger-lickin’ fried chicken, and I was immediately sold. With a limited menu and equally limited hours (they serve boxed lunches exclusively, Thursdays through Saturdays), our choice was easy: “We’ll take one of everything.”
For a seemingly steep $16.50, we had the choice of buttermilk fried chicken or barbeque (we got one of each), both served with drool-worthy, seasonal sides. We had potato salad and kale with pancetta, and house-made raspberry sorbet for dessert. Worth every penny.
You practically had to roll us off the picnic benches, but we managed to enjoy almost every last bite (and truth be told – even stopped by Bouchon Bakery for a macaron before heading out of town). If you’re in the neighborhood, addendum is absolutely worth a visit!

More Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
Last week, we posted a chocolate-covered strawberries recipe from Pinterest, and this week, another SacFoodie shares her version of this classic, sweet treat!
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
I’ll be the first to admit it – I don’t spend as much time in the kitchen as I’d like to. But let’s be honest, with only 24 hours in a day and at least 36 hours worth of to do’s daily (whether they’re wants or needs), you have to cut corners occasionally. That’s why chocolate covered strawberries have become my go-to for a quick and easy crowd-pleaser. This Valentine’s Day, I wanted to do something nice for the lovely people I work with (get it?), but knew I couldn’t afford to spend time slaving over the stove.
Now talk to most dessert lovers, and they’ll say the one essential component to any good chocolate covered strawberry is a double-broiler for the chocolate. I say double-broiler, double-shmoiler! The truth is, it’s easy to make decadent strawberries using store-bought chocolate chips and your trusty old microwave. The key is not to over-cook the chips.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Ingredients
20 strawberries
1 bag chocolate chips (my preference is milk chocolate, but any will do)
Directions
Rinse strawberries and lay out to dry on paper towels. Pour chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on medium heat for 45 – 60 seconds, depending on the power of your microwave. While the microwave is going, gently pat the strawberries with another paper towel, ensuring that they are dry. Remove bowl of chocolate chips from microwave and stir gently. Note: the chips will often appear un-melted at first, only to melt together upon stirring, as the warmer chocolate will be closer to the bottom of the bowl. If needed, microwave in additional increments of 15 second each, removing and stirring after each until completely melted. Dip strawberries one at a time, twirling each to ensure full coating. Lay dipped strawberries on waxed paper atop a cookie sheet and refrigerate overnight.
Wordless Wednesday: Decadent Brunch
I recently discovered this recipe for Bacon, Egg, and Toast Cups on Pinterest and couldn’t help but make them for a brunch party. Needless to say, they’re a real crowd-pleaser!
Studio Gourmet SF – ONE MARKET
Want to shake up your weeknight routine? Head to San Francisco next Tuesday night for a unique foodie outing! I’ve recently become acquainted with Brad Lev, the mastermind behind Studio Gourmet SF, who will be hosting a live cooking demonstration and interview with Chef and Partner Mark Dommen of the highly acclaimed ONE MARKET restaurant in San Francisco.
According to Brad, the reason why Studio Gourmet was created was to give audiences the opportunity to hear the real stories behind the chefs. In a world where culinary entertainment is in the spotlight, Studio Gourmet claims to be “the first culinary event that shows you all the sides of the chef.”
Chef Mark Dommen led ONE MARKET to four consecutive Michelin stars in the 2011 Guide and will be demonstrating one of his signature dishes: Apple-Smoked Bacon-Wrapped Pork Tenderloin with Dandelion and Apple. In addition, the ticket fee includes a welcome cocktail and appetizers before the show and a variety of bites from ONE MARKET including their Dungeness Crab Cakes with a Saffron Aioli.
Event details are below; let us know if you plan to go check it out!
