Favorite food: I don’t discriminate against any food, but the foods I simply can’t live without are sushi rolls piled high and with lots of sauce, espresso (in any form), Grande Mocha Frappuccino’s and Thai iced tea, but not all at the same time, of course. My favorite condiment is definitely sour cream, which I realize is weird to mix with jelly and put on waffles, but it’s so good!

Favorite local restaurants (formal dining, ethnic, neighborhood bistro): Sitting outdoors at Slocum House is my favorite formal dining. My boyfriend and I make a stop at Thai Bistro, El Mariachi Taqueria, or Woodstock’s in Davis pretty much every week. Saturday mornings after the Davis Farmer’s Market I get my caffeine hit and then head over to Posh Bagel for a poppy seed bagel toasted with light cream cheese. On weekday mornings, the Java City coffee cart in the lobby of our building is the best convenience ever for my coffee habit.

Earliest food-related memory from childhood: Baking candy cane shaped prune rolls on Christmas morning with Grandma. We still bake them every year.

Most impressive dish you’ve whipped up using only ingredients on hand: One night my roommate and I were having a craving for churros and of course, Costco was closed (Costco churros are soo good!). We headed into the kitchen and realized that we had everything to make churros right in our pantry. Who knew? We whipped some up that were muy delicioso! Now that I know I can make churros at any time, it’s very dangerous.

Favorite family recipe: My dad’s marinated grilled skirt steak fajitas. Mmmmm.

    Hi, Jenna,

    My name is Sujin, and I recently moved back home to Bakersfield from NYC. Why many have asked? Purely because I missed my family. I am starting to go thru NYC w/drawal and get the shakes every now and then because the ecletic mix of international foods is cumbersome and nonexistent to come across these neck of the woods. I am a foodie, so Jack in the Box and the Elephant Bar are not the greatest choices to dine at.

    I am also a condiment phene and put ketchup, hoisin, or mayonnaise on everything. I’m big on sauces since I am a vegetarian. Ergo, any veggie/pasta/bread tastes oh so much better with some saucy sweet and spicy love. Haha. Well, I thought I’d give you a shout since you sound as quirky as I am.
