If you follow the blog, you know that SacFoodies love attending Sacramento food festivals. They’re the perfect environment to try new restaurants and food trucks, all while surrounded by fellow foodies. The Sac Fry Fest, held at Roosevelt Park in late April, gathered Sacramento’s tastiest loaded fries into one spot, along with beer and cider, live music, and more! We tried fries from three different trucks, and they all exceeded our expectations. Here’s a lineup of the fries we tried:
Sisig Fries from Wandering Boba – Crisp shoestring fries topped with citrus-pepper marinated pork, ground chicharrones, diced white onion, jalapenos, and the crown jewel: an over easy egg. These fries were a game-changer. The spicy jalapeno, onion and luscious egg yolk went together wonderfully. They didn’t skimp on pork either, which was much appreciated.
Hefty Fries from Hefty Gyros – Grilled chicken on top of crinkle fries with tzatziki sauce, mild sriracha BBQ sauce, special seasoning, pepperoncinis and feta cheese. We had our eyes on these fries from the moment we got tickets to the festival. Something about tzatziki and feta with a bite of sriracha is unbeatable. These fries were so delicious!
Loaded Pizza Fries from On the Fry – Crispy fries topped with marinara sauce, melted mozzarella, pepperoni, and heaps of fresh basil. Yeah, you read that right. This pizza/French fries hybrid was cheesy and the perfect amount of spicy. Who knew pizza was 10 times better served on fries instead of crust?! These fries were also available on potato skins, if you’re feeling crazy.
Last but not least, we washed our meals down with some Bike Dog IPAs. All the proceeds from beer and cider sales benefited the Friends of Front Street Shelter, so we enjoyed our beverages while helping animals in need. Truly a win-win.
Overall, this festival was a huge hit! Granted, anything involving the words “loaded fries” can’t be bad, but the set up of this festival made it all the better. Buying tasting tokens at the door made for zero lines at any food trucks, and the large open space offered plenty of seating. #SacFryFest, we can’t wait til next year! Until then, does anyone know if these food trucks deliver? đ
4th Annual SF Street Food Festival is Worth a Trip to the City
A guest blog by Chelsea Johnson in Fleishman-Hillardâs San Francisco office.
The largest celebration of street food in San Francisco is happening this weekend with the SF Street Food Festival, sponsored by La Cocina.
This Saturday, August 18, food carts, trucks and stations will line Folsom Street in the Mission District offering a full culinary kaleidoscope.
This year I had the pleasure of attending a media dinner hosted by La Cocina, giving me the chance to meet some of the vendors (master chefs in my humble opinion) and taste the dishes before the actual festival.
Here are my top three picks for the weekend that you simply must sample:
1. Jacked-up Hush Puppies by Zellaâs Soulful Kitchen
These hush puppies are like none youâve ever tasted before. Pepper jack cheese, onions and jalapenos comprise this corn fritter topped with a remoulade drizzle.
2. Onigilly Bites by Onigilly
Not commonly found in the U.S., Onigilly is a traditional Japanese snack. Rice balls are filled with various toppings then encased in a seaweed wrap. I recommend the spicy tuna or the eggplant.
3. Malaysian Chilaquiles by Azalinaâs
Always a hit at San Francisco festivals, Azalina has done it again with her Malysian Chilaquiles. Scallion flatbread and chicken rending are topped with Azalinaâs delicious coconut jam. Also check out her famous Penang Curry Bomb!
This is just a taste of what will be at San Franciscoâs largest street food festival. For a full line up of vendors and for information about location and tickets, visit SFstreetfoodfest.com.
About La Cocina
La Cocina is San Franciscoâs first incubator kitchen, designed to reduce the obstacles that often prevent talented entrepreneurs from creating successful and sustainable small businesses. By providing shared resources and an array of industry-specific services, incubators like La Cocina ensure that small businesses can succeed. The San Francisco Street Food festival helps La Cocina raise the money needed to help participants working to launch their own food businesses.

A âBest of the Westâ Food Fest is Back!
Looking for some foodie fun this weekend? Well, look no more! The Stockton Asparagus Festival is here! This three-day extravaganza in Downtown Stockton will feature fresh California-grown asparagus â 36,000 pounds of it were served last year â in many unique dishes, such as deep-fried asparagus, asparagus tri-tip sandwiches, asparagus burritos and asparagus pasta dishes, just to name a few.
The Asparagus Festival is rated one of the best food festivals in the west and is a crowd-pleaser for all ages. Adult tickets are $12, seniors (60+) and teens (13-17) are $7, and children under 12 are free. Food and drink tickets vary, so click here for more information on pricing and to purchase tickets online. The great thing is 100% of the festival proceeds go to local charities â eat local, give local.
Fun fact: Much of the asparagus is cut fresh daily and served right up from the delta to you. For more information on California Grown (client), take a peek at California Grownâs new video series featuring farmer profiles, recipes and more.
