Tightwad Tuesday: 2 for $20 Tuesdays at Zocalo
A few weeks ago I heard about a deal that I simply could not pass up: right now, Zocalo, one of my favorite local Mexican restaurants, is offering a special they’re calling “2 for $20 Tuesdays.” For just $20, you and a dining companion can enjoy one appetizer, two entrees and a dessert, all off a special menu of 2 for $20 items. And, if you’re partaking in the 2 for $20 food special, you’ll also gain access to special drink prices, including $4 draft beers and $5 house margaritas.
When I visited, the two entrees we tried were the chicken tacos topped with guacamole and the mole chicken enchiladas, both of which were delicious! Unfortunately, the 2 for $20 special was so popular that night, the restaurant ran out of the churros and ice cream dessert we ordered, but they sent us home with a to-go order of the chocolate cake and mango sorbet, which more than made up for it!
Next time you’re craving mid-week Mexican, grab a friend and head to Zocalo, where you can dine in style and save your pennies at the same time.

Burritos Give Back
We heart burritos. There’s never a bad time for a warm tortilla stuffed with steamy deliciousness. Breakfast, lunch or dinner – you can’t go wrong.
Needless to say, we’re pretty excited for today’s fundraising event at Chipotle benefiting our friends at the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. Enjoy a tasty treat at any Sacramento-area Chipotle from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m., show this flier and 50% of the proceeds will go directly to SFBFS. The flier is doubled, so share the giving and make a new friend by using half and give the other to someone in line!
Happy Mexican Independence Day!
Who doesn’t wish Cinco de Mayo came twice a year? Well, you might have been thinking all along that you were celebrating Mexico’s Independence Day each year on May 5th, but we’re here to clear up the confusion and give you one more reason to celebrate. While Cinco de Mayo is a much smaller holiday commemorating Mexico’s victory at the Battle of Puebla, today is the true Mexican Independence Day!
Two local Sacramento restaurants are paying tribute to this important day in Mexico’s history with special events tonight:
Zocalo –Stop by tonight starting at 5 p.m. when the party will just be getting started with a mariachi band, norteno-style music, folklorica ballet dancers and a professional jimador demonstrating the tequila-making process. Zocalo’s main event will be a tasting hosted by Herradura featuring their top-shelf tequilas.
Ernesto’s Mexican Food – Don’t miss out on Ernesto’s drink specials, live mariachi performances, music and dancing all evening long.
