Tightwad Tuesday: IKEA

ikea_1All right, we know what you’re thinking. “What is a giant furniture store like IKEA doing on Sac Foodies?” However, the IKEA enthusiasts out there know the low-price Swedish furniture retailer is more than just a place to find a desk lamp for $8 – it’s also a place where you can score some real deals on good food. And we challenge you to not feel even the slightest pang of hunger after successfully navigating those winding corridors in the showroom.

With entrée prices that struggle to reach the $9 level, the IKEA Restaurant on the second floor is a Tightwad Tuesday dream come true. Probably the best deal is reserved for the morning hours, when you can get a breakfast of eggs, bacon and home fries for just $0.99. That may very well be the best breakfast deal in town!

IKEA veterans know the best time to beat the crowds is to shop on a weeknight. If you’re there on a Wednesday after 4:00 p.m., you can get a half rack of baby back ribs, fries and corn bread for a mere $7.99. They also have vegetarian options like the Organic Pasta for only $1.99. Of course, if you want to go old school IKEA, you must try their famous Swedish meatballs. For only $4.99, you get 15 meatballs, mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce.

I’ve “dined” at Ikea many a times. My go-to order is the Swedish meatball plate, sub fries for the mashed potatoes. Yum!
