I’m fairly new to the Sacramento area, so you can imagine how overwhelmed I was with all of the different places there are to eat. I love food, but didn’t know where to start! Well, I was in luck because on my way home one night, a restaurant caught my attention and I knew exactly where my food journey would begin…Malabar American Cooking and Cocktails.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how spacious it was. The dim, earthy lighting gave the restaurant a relaxed, comfortable feel. With a large bar and surrounding TV’s, Malabar is a perfect destination for a night out with friends or a date with a significant other. Conveniently located near Arco Arena, Malabar is also a great place for concert-goers and sports fans.
Now on to the best part: the menu. It was extensive and included hamburgers, pizza, steak, fish, pasta, and Mexican food. Being the indecisive person that I am, I studied the menu for a good 20 minutes before settling on the Chicken and Cheese Enchiladas with black beans and cilantro lime rice. My dining partner got the meatloaf with garlic roasted mashed potatoes, sautéed seasonal vegetables, and home style mushroom gravy.
My Chicken and Cheese Enchiladas were delicious; they had an authentic Mexican flavor with an American twist and the black beans were a healthy alternative to the traditional refried beans.I managed to steal a bite of the meatloaf and mashed potatoes before they were devoured, too. The meatloaf, full of flavor, tasted homemade and the garlic mashed potatoes melted in my mouth.
Malabar’s menu has more than 20 entrees under $10 and a kids menu with all items under $5. For anyone interested in having a cocktail, there is a unique cocktail menu that features Malabar specialties like a Frozen Grape Martini, Pear-Berry Lemonade, and Malabar Rum Runner. Malabar is open daily 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
