Hot adult beverages are one of my favorite things to enjoy on a cold winter night. While there are many mixes on the market, there is nothing quite like a homemade Hot Buttered Rum to make the season a little brighter. I found this recipe from Emeril Lagasse a few years back and it doesn’t disappoint. The original recipe asks for 3 ounces of rum for each serving, but it’s a bit much and 2 ounces tastes better and more buttery.
Hot Buttered Rum Cocktail
1 stick butter, softened
2 cups light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon grated nutmeg
Pinch ground cloves
Bottle dark rum
Boiling water
In a bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Refrigerate until almost firm. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture into 12 small mugs. Pour about 2 ounces of rum into each mug. Top with boiling water, stir well and serve immediately.
