Picnic Day, UC Davis
It’s that time of the year again! UC Davis’ 97th annual campus-wide open house, Picnic Day, is this Saturday, April 16, 2011. The theme of this year’s Picnic Day is “Rewind” and was chosen with hope that Picnic Day attendees will revive the spirit of the first picnic day in 1909.
Picnic Day at UC Davis is a family-friendly event for all to come and experience the diversity and achievement at UC Davis and the surrounding community in the areas of research, teaching, service and campus life. Picnic Day is a FREE event and open for everyone, no registration required to attend. For the schedule of events, visit the Picnic Day website.
When I was a student at UC Davis, Picnic Day was always one of the most memorable days of the year. It was the best excuse to wake up early and wander around campus with my friends enjoying the exhibits, parties, demonstrations, live music, food, and the crowds of people present on one of the busiest days of the year in Davis.
Of course, the SacFoodies especially love all the great food at Picnic Day! The abundance of food vendors and food-related events available throughout campus are reason enough for us to attend each year. Check out some of our previous SacFoodies Picnic Day posts to learn more.

KCRA 3 A-List
Have you already voted in the KCRA 3 A-List contest? The annual KCRA 3 A-List contest features more than 6,000 local businesses competing to be named the best in Sacramento. The contest gives you the opportunity to rank your favorite places in Sacramento, from hair salons and florists to even jazz clubs. Our favorite parts of the contest are obviously the food-related sections. They let you rank your favorite bakery, steakhouse, Chinese restaurant, winery, cupcake, etc. We’ve already voted for our favorites, have you?
Another great thing about the KCRA 3 A-List, is that there is also a Best Blogger section and we’re proud to be on the list this year! If you love reading our blog, we’d appreciate your vote.
To vote for the KCRA 3 A-List, go to http://kcra.cityvoter.com/ where you can quickly set up an account and start voting. The contest ends May 18, so be sure to place your votes before then.
The Prado in Balboa Park, San Diego
While in San Diego on a recent business trip, fellow SacFoodie Jenna and I managed to squeeze in a trip to beautiful Balboa Park and enjoy bunch at the famous Prado Restaurant before heading to the airport to catch our flight home. We dined on Grilled Skirt Steak Tacos with chili-lime marinated steak, cabbage slaw, charro beans, spinach rice with a delicious chimichurri sauce and a Grilled Chicken BLT. The BLT was complete with avocado, applewood smoked bacon and tarragon aioli on a ciabatta roll with a side of house-made kale chips and broccoli salad. Yum! The meal was delicious and so filling it was hard to finish (but of course we did!) Return trip to San Diego anyone??
