What goes better together than wine, cheese and bread? We can’t think of anything! That’s why we are excited to announce that the Wine, Cheese and Bread Faire 2013 at the Old Sugar Mill is back.
Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4 from 11 to 5 pm, you can enjoy local cheese, bread and wine from 10 different wineries and shop for specialty chocolates, olive oils, nuts, coffees, teas, spices and other local products.
Visitors can also enjoy a picnic lunch with wine on the gorgeous outdoor patio while taking in live music and the delta breeze after wine tasting and shopping. You can also attend live, interactive cheese education discussions and participate in cheese making classes with advanced registration.
This year, the Faire is even more exciting with the Grilled Cheese Competition! Watch chefs from local restaurants compete as they craft their version of the best grilled cheese in the region and then purchase your favorite for lunch.
Tickets this year are $20 in advance, $25 at door and include a commemorative wine glass, thermo tote bag for cheese and complimentary tastings at ten different wineries during the day. Luckily for SacFoodies fans, we are giving away two tickets to this special event! To enter for your chance to win, comment below and tell us which type of wine you’d pair with a grilled cheese: white or red?

Depends on the type of cheese in the grilled cheese I guess. Overall though I would have to say red.

I would pair it with a red wine. And even though I have nevered paired a grilled cheese with a wine… I am thinking a Pinot noir or a Syrah depending on the cheese.
Rachel Hallgren says
Grilled cheese would go perfect with a nice, peppery Zinfandel. YUM!
Dawniell Black says
Depending on the type of cheese, but I prefer white so I would go with a sweeter white perhaps a Riesling.

I tend to almost always go for white wine this time of year. The heat makes it hard to think about anything else. Look forward to tasting both red and white wines at the fair though!
Cynthia Redford says
Red ……. Because I love red wine!
Megan says
Red! I always like a strong red for warm gooey melty cheese.
Pam says
Either one would work for us! White with a pretty basic sandwich, red with melted brie, artisan bread and dried cherries, yum!
Ivy Glasgow says
Tough question, because it could depend on the bread, cheese, and other additions (bacon?) being used. But blind, I’d go for white. Something flexible, multi-purpose like Chardonnay.
Chris says
Red wine, of course!
Helen says
White! 🙂
Amanda says
Red for sure. Red goes with everything!
Debby Hecathorn says
I prefer white! Yum
Pat says
Red, for the “heart healthy” benefits.
Vicky Whitney says
Depends on the cheese. Probably a red, but that is mostly because I tend to prefer reds. Probably a syrah.
Linda Montenegro says
It would depend on the cheese as well as the bread.
Patrick Mishler says
Depending on the cheese and the bread obviously, but I would most likely go with a red due to personal preference. Perhaps a Cabernet Sauvignon, or a Pinot Noir.

Well the grilled cheese should be as simple as what wine you should drink. I’d go with an gooey mild cheeder cheese sandwich lightly toasted with yummy butter…and the wine. ANY wine will do. When does wine not taste wonderful. Pick your favorite that day and go with it. Wine and food should be fun and adventurous. Get your friends together and make a few grilled cheese sandies and a couple bottles of different wine and talk about them. Its your own food and wine faire in your backyard. Enjoy and cheers!
