The Kentucky Derby takes place tomorrow, which means it’s time for getting out your best spring attire, donning your favorite fancy hat and mixing up southern-inspired libations.
Whether you’re planning on tuning in and sipping from home or at a local establishment, we’ve got you covered!
Berkeley Bar, located in the Pavilions Shopping Center, will be mixing up Mint Juleps and serving southern-inspired bites all day on Saturday for your enjoyment. The energy is sure to be buzzing with locals cheering on Northern California native "California Chrome” (anticipated winner) from Yuba City. If you’re planning on hosting your own gathering, the folks at Berkeley Bar have provided the classic Mint Julep recipe below. Cheers and happy viewing!
Mint Julep Recipe
Ingredients
6 fresh mint leaves 3 tsp powdered sugar
2oz bourbon
ice
Directions
1. Place 4 mint leaves in the bottom of a pre-chilled silver julep cup. Add the powdered sugar and a few drops of bourbon. Using a muddler, muddle the mixture well to dissolve the sugar and release the oil and aroma of the mint.
2. Add the remaining bourbon and fill cup with crushed or cubed ice.
3. Stir well and garnish with the remaining mint leaves.
