All the wonderful colors of fall will soon be covering the streets of Oak Park and what better place to take it all in than the Oak Park Broadway Corridor on First Friday.
First Friday is an exciting community-oriented event that celebrates all that Oak Park has to offer and transforms the Broadway Corridor into an evening full of shopping, dining, art installations and festive community celebrations.
Come celebrate the fall season with warm seasonal drinks from local coffeehouses, a pop-up park for kids and adults, food trucks featuring seasonal fall items, special sales at retail locations, live music and art activations from some of Sacramento’s top designers, artisans and muralists.
First Friday in Oak Park spans the Broadway Corridor from 37th Street to Alhambra, and is presented by the Oak Park Business Association and Unseen Heroes.

Sacramento Cocktail Week 2016
by Brandon Smith
Bathrobe-clad bartenders, a hole-in-one, rum punch, Caribbean jerk chicken, a race against time and brandied cherries. What do all these things have in common? You probably experienced at least one of these things if you attended a Sacramento Cocktail Week event.
As we previously mentioned, Sacramento Cocktail Week is a week-long celebration uniting local bartenders, fine spirits, fresh products and artisan cocktails. Restaurants, bars, bartenders and patrons from around the greater Sacramento area came together to create, celebrate and of course, drink cocktails.
I jumped at the chance to be a part of the action. I had been looking for an excuse to get out and experience more of the incredible bar and craft cocktail scene in Sacramento and cocktail week seemed like the perfect opportunity. I made it a goal to attend at least five Sacramento Cocktail Week events to make the most out of the experience.
Day 1: The Dude Imbibes at Bottle & Barlow
Cocktail week kicked off on Sunday with its first featured event, The Dude Imbibes. The event featured a number of cocktails and food inspired by the Coen Brothers cult classic, The Big Lebowski. White Russians and Sioux City Sarsaparillas (yeah…that’s a good one) were being poured up by two bartenders dressed as The Dude and Walter Sobchak. The Wandering Chef was serving up bowling alley themed classics like bacon burgers, specialty hot dogs and nachos with scratch made cheddar beer sauce. Everything was well thought out and played off the Lebowski theme. If you’ve never seem the film, you’ll just have to take my word for it, man.

Day 2: Tavern on the Green at Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Co.
Hook & Ladder hosted the second featured event of the week, The Tavern on the Green. Fellow SacFoodie Harrison and I decided to check this one out after leaving the office Monday afternoon.

SactoMoFo 9 Food Truck Festival is Tomorrow!
One of my first memories of moving to Sacramento two years ago was attending a food truck festival under a bridge—also known as SactoMoFo 7, under Highway 80 at 6th street. It was an awesome day of nonstop music, beer and eats. And for your entertainment, below is proof of my hipster Instagram attempt from that day.
Since then, the SactoMoFo team has announced the annual free festival’s expansion to Discovery Park and partnership with Raley’s and Sacramento County in 2016 to accommodate its increase in popularity. Last year’s festival attracted 18,000 attendees!
SactoMoFo 9 will take place from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday, May 21st. The festival will feature over 40 of Northern California’s most notable food trucks. I was excited to see one of my Bay Area favorites on the list again, Curry Up Now, who offer insanely delicious “Sexy Fries,” which are sweet potato fries topped with cheese and your favorite type of masala.
The festival will also feature local craft beer ‘islands’ benefiting Front Street Animal Shelter, an expansive vending bazaar, a Thunder Valley Main Stage featuring continuous live entertainment from local performance groups, the Hot 103.5 and 101.9 The Wolf VIP lounge, an interactive Kids Zone facilitated by Sol Collective and more.
