We have all heard of Slow Food, but what about Slow Beer? Slow Food Sacramento invites you to try this new concept at Magpie this Sunday, Aug 21st at 4:00 p.m.
According to Slow Food Sacramento, “Slow Beer is our link to the Ark of Taste, which is the topic of the Terra Madre Salone del Gusto extravaganza being held in Turin, Italy, this September. Terra Madre is the most important international event dedicated to food and gastronomy. From educational forums to conferences to a grand marketplace, this is where international food communities meet. This is where ideas turn into actions. This is where biodiversity reigns and is celebrated. And five Sacramento delegates will be there, including Magpie owner Ed Roehr.”

Midtown Farmers Market
We love the Capitol Mall farmers market and it’s easy to forget the other great farmers markets across Sacramento. One of our favorites is the Midtown Farmers Market that happens every Saturday morning, year round, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This farmers market is located in the heart of midtown on 20th Street in between J and L streets and makes for a great stop on a Saturday morning stroll. Afterwards, stop by the many great restaurants and coffee shops scattered across Midtown.

Food Delivery Apps Bring Sac’s Best Food Right to Your Door
by Harrison Reilly
Technology has changed the way we go about our daily lives, making simple tasks as easy as pressing a button. One of those tasks is ordering food. Tech startups have made it easier than ever to get fresh and prepared food delivered straight to your door through apps, websites and around the clock employees. Here are a few of the food delivery options you can use right here in Sacramento:
Postmates
The first food delivery app to launch in Sacramento, Postmates delivers food from many of the most popular places in Sacramento, usually in under an hour. The app will deliver food from chains such as Chipotle or Panda Express or local restaurants like Petra or The Coconut On T. Similar to Uber and Lyft, users can rate and tip their “Postmate” after receiving their order. Getting lunch at work or a late night snack has never been easier.
Caviar
An alternative to Postmates is Caviar. Caviar prides itself on delivering food from local restaurants, offering only what they consider the best restaurants, saying on their App Store page “we have standard pizza and noodle fare, but it’s the best pizza and noodles around.”
With more exotic options to choose from, Caviar is a great way to explore the diverse food selections in Sacramento. It’s not just for meals either, on Caviar you can order cookies from Goodie Tuchews or salami and cheese from Block Butcher Bar. For the Sacramento food lover, this app does wonders.
Amazon Prime Now
For those of you who don’t like grocery shopping, Amazon Prime Now is a dream come true. Available to Amazon Prime members, Amazon Prime Now offers select cities one-hour deliveries for $7.99 and two-hour deliveries for free. Now you can have produce, dairy and snacks delivered straight to your door in the time it takes to watch four episodes of The Office. But Prime Now delivers more than just food; you can also order electronics, toys and household items. Amazon continues to change how we shop for everyday things.
Beers In Sacramento
While not a delivery service, Beers In Sacramento is a useful app for the craft beer lovers in the city. The app provides a convenient pocket guide for the breweries and bars in the greater Sacramento area. It includes a map of breweries, an updating list of beer events, a tip calculator and offers special deals such as credit for Lyft.
With companies constantly innovating, it will be interesting to see what food apps will be developed even a year from now. For now though, there is plenty to choose from for the Sacramento foodie. So tonight, sit back, relax and let the best of Sacramento’s dining scene be delivered right to your door!
Love Beer? Love Yoga?
If you love beer and yoga, then you need to know about The Beer Yogis. Coming up on July 21st, experienced yoga teachers with a passion for good craft beer will lead a class at Yolo Brewing Company, a SacFoodies favorite.
Marrying two passions, beer and yoga, The Beer Yogis have embarked on a nationwide, one-month summer tour promoting the benefits of yoga inside some of the country’s major craft breweries. The summer tour spans almost two dozen locations across the country, including breweries in the instructors’ hometowns of Cleveland and Salem, Oregon.
For more information on The Beer Yogis Summer Road Trip, including a full schedule of tour dates and locations, visit www.TheBeerYogis.com. And if you head to Yolo Brewing, be sure to try the Orange Blossom Blonde – if you ask us, it’s what summer beer is allll about.
SactoMoFo 9 Food Truck Festival is Tomorrow!
One of my first memories of moving to Sacramento two years ago was attending a food truck festival under a bridge—also known as SactoMoFo 7, under Highway 80 at 6th street. It was an awesome day of nonstop music, beer and eats. And for your entertainment, below is proof of my hipster Instagram attempt from that day.
Since then, the SactoMoFo team has announced the annual free festival’s expansion to Discovery Park and partnership with Raley’s and Sacramento County in 2016 to accommodate its increase in popularity. Last year’s festival attracted 18,000 attendees!
SactoMoFo 9 will take place from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday, May 21st. The festival will feature over 40 of Northern California’s most notable food trucks. I was excited to see one of my Bay Area favorites on the list again, Curry Up Now, who offer insanely delicious “Sexy Fries,” which are sweet potato fries topped with cheese and your favorite type of masala.
The festival will also feature local craft beer ‘islands’ benefiting Front Street Animal Shelter, an expansive vending bazaar, a Thunder Valley Main Stage featuring continuous live entertainment from local performance groups, the Hot 103.5 and 101.9 The Wolf VIP lounge, an interactive Kids Zone facilitated by Sol Collective and more.
