Spoonful of Chutney – Wordless Wednesday

Wordless Wednesday: South Indian filter coffee, before and after brewing. We South Indians are fiercely proud of our coffee, and for good reason. It’s aromatic, rich, and the best antidote to alarm clocks. You can try some at Mylapore in Folsom (which I’d earlier reviewed for its excellent dosa.)

Chef's Coffee Challenge

July 18, 2013 by SacFoodies

We have exciting news for all of you coffee connoisseurs – Sacramento’s Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters is hosting the first ever, Chef’s Coffee Challenge at their newest East Sacramento location on Saturday, July 27th at 6:30 p.m. where one of Sacramento’s hottest chefs, Aimal Formoli of Formoli’s Bistro will prepare a four-course dinner and incorporate coffee as an essential ingredient within each course. The enticing menu will be not be revealed until the night of the dinner.
The idea of hosting a Chef’s Coffee Challenge blossomed when Chef Aimal and Chocolate Fish Coffee owners, Edie and Andy Baker, were conducting a coffee tasting and got inspired from the intrinsic flavors of sweetness and fruit acidity found in the coffee.  The three coffee-lovers began to discuss how different coffee brewing methods created a variety of flavors that could complement the taste of various foods.
Combining Chef Aimal’s culinary talent with Chocolate Fish Coffee’s high-quality beans seemed to be a match made in food heaven. Coffee lover or not, this is a one-of-a-kind dinner party you won’t want to miss.
Tickets are $50 each and seating is limited to 30 guests so make your reservations now at (916) 710–1023 or by visiting the newest  Chocolate Fish Coffee location at 4749 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA.

Temple Coffee House

January 29, 2013 by SacFoodies

What a revelation it was to discover I could enjoy the taste of coffee without adding cream or sugar.  In the past, if I ever had to drink a regular cup of coffee, I would find myself dissatisfied by the lack of flavor and bitter taste.  It wasn’t until I discovered Temple Coffee House and sampled their award-winning coffee that I truly learned to appreciate the wonderful flavor-potential of these rare, natural coffee beans.
Temple Coffee House prides itself for its expertly crafted artisan coffee and amazing selection of flavors. Voted Sacramento’s Best Coffee House since its opening in 2005, it has earned a reputation for providing the finest and highest quality coffee in Sacramento.
When I walked into Temple Coffee House for the first time, I immediately felt at ease in this relaxed, comfortable café environment.  I ordered a cup of the famous El Salvador Tres Limites roast and paired it with a delectable carrot-pecan muffin.
My first sip of the El Salvador Tres Limites was enchanting. The body was full without needing cream. The robust flavor was sweet and decadent without having to add sugar. It was extraordinary and unexpected, delicious but yet so simple. I was amazed by the smoothness and the delicate taste of the bourbon vanilla, stone fruit, and flavorsome fudge coming from each sip. The blend of flavors was impossible to ignore and was more or less as comparable to sipping fine-wine for the first time.

To top it off, the carrot-pecan muffin was an excellent complement to my perfectly roasted  and superbly brewed coffee. I was so delighted by my experience at Temple Coffee House that I can’t wait to return for my next delicious cup.
