Tea List, Davis

March 16, 2011 by SacFoodies

If you’re ever in the mood for afternoon tea, be sure to visit Tea List in Davis. Tea List is an elegant tea room tucked away on D Street, behind The Mustard Seed restaurant and next to the charming boutique, Creme de la Creme. The tea room is well-stocked with high quality organic and fair trade teas that can be enjoyed with their delicious, homemade sandwiches, salads and pastries. The tea and food are both available as take-out or to be enjoyed in the cozy dining room.

I recently visited Tea List for a birthday tea event and I’ve been dying to go back ever since. The service was great and the food was delicious. The friendly owner, Nahid, even took the time to teach us about each of the teas we chose and how to steep them perfectly for the best tea-drinking experience. My favorite was the Organic Vanilla Black Tea – not to mention the delicious assortment of fresh scones, sandwiches, pastries and fresh fruit. Tea List was the perfect place for our girls-only, elegant afternoon out to celebrate a birthday with friends. Tea List

KetMoRee, Davis

October 21, 2010 by SacFoodies

Davis loves Thai food.  Seriously.  According to DavisWiki, there are currently eight Thai restaurants in town.  EIGHT!  In a small town that is a lot… and I love it. I’ve tried them all, and always seem to come back to two favorites: Sophia’s Thai Kitchen, which Edie wrote about earlier this week, and KetMoRee.
Those who are familiar with the Davis restaurant scene will remember 2KThai, and would be glad to know that KetMoRee was opened by the same owners as a much expanded version.  In fact, many of the same menu items are available, plus so much more.  The restaurant tags itself as “fine dining family atmosphere” – not sure what that means, but it’s working.
The ambiance at KetMoRee is great – you’re almost certain to score a large booth or window seat and the décor is fun with large Thai lanterns.

We always start our meal with the Mango Salad, I’m kind of addicted. (shredded mango, cilantro, green onion, red onion, coconut flakes & cashew nuts).

My husband and I shared an entrée: Yellow Curry with Lamb (lamb in yellow curry with avocado, potato, carrot, onion, bell pepper, served with cucumber salad). This dish was a highlight. I usually stick to yellow curries and the addition of lamb and avocados made this one special.

Finally, for dessert we had the Mango and Sticky Rice (sticky rice, mango, coconut milk and sesame seeds).

KetMoRee is a definite go-to for Thai food in Davis. They also have a full bar, and if you’re a fan of Thai Ice Tea, I recommend their “Hard Thai Ice Tea” – delish!

Sophia’s Thai Kitchen, Davis

October 19, 2010 by SacFoodies

When I heard that we were planning a Sac Foodies Thai week I knew
instantly where I would be heading: being a recent graduate of UC Davis, I chose Sophia’s Thai Kitchen in downtown Davis, an old favorite and above all, an excellent choice for Thai cuisine. It wasn’t hard to convince my friend visiting from out of town to join me!

The first thing I ordered was a Thai iced tea.  If you are looking for an energy boost this is it! Not to mention they taste amazing, and the refills are unlimited!  For my entree I decided to go with a simple but flavorful dish, Thai Fried Rice with Chicken:  stir-fried rice with egg, tomatoes, green onions, Sriracha sauce topped with cilantro. (And for those vegetarians out there you can always substitute the chicken for tofu :))
The chicken was marinated in a rich sauce and mixed in with the rice and vegetables made this rice dish a very delicious and filling meal.  If you’re in the mood for something a little less spicy but still booming with flavor I highly recommend this Thai Fried Rice.

If you get the opportunity to take a trip to Downtown Davis, I would make a point to stop at Sophia’s Thai Kitchen, it is definitely worth the drive!

A Taste of Davis

March 8, 2010 by SacFoodies

I’ve often heard people say that one of the many great things about Sacramento is its proximity to so many amazing places. Tahoe, Napa, Sonoma, San Francisco . . . the list is long and diverse. Maybe I’m biased, being from “The Bicycle Capital of the U.S.” and all, but I would argue that Davis holds a strong position on that list – and it’s definitely in the top ten. Whether your prior experience with Davis involves nothing more than a pit-stop for In-N-Out drive-through, or you are a regular at the Saturday Farmer’s market, this Friday holds an opportunity for anyone to explore the bountiful tastes that Davis has to offer. The Davis Chamber of Commerce is hosting the first-ever “A Taste of Davis” on March 12 from 6:00 – 9:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Center Community Park.

Tickets are $40 in advance or $50 at the door and include sampling from a variety of Davis’ best restaurants, caterers and wineries. According to the Davis, CA Chamber of Commerce Facebook Fan Page, Ciocolat and Caffe Italia are two of the many purveyors that will be present. Please see below for a full list of vendors.
