Chef's Coffee Challenge

July 18, 2013 by SacFoodies

We have exciting news for all of you coffee connoisseurs – Sacramento’s Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters is hosting the first ever, Chef’s Coffee Challenge at their newest East Sacramento location on Saturday, July 27th at 6:30 p.m. where one of Sacramento’s hottest chefs, Aimal Formoli of Formoli’s Bistro will prepare a four-course dinner and incorporate coffee as an essential ingredient within each course. The enticing menu will be not be revealed until the night of the dinner.
The idea of hosting a Chef’s Coffee Challenge blossomed when Chef Aimal and Chocolate Fish Coffee owners, Edie and Andy Baker, were conducting a coffee tasting and got inspired from the intrinsic flavors of sweetness and fruit acidity found in the coffee.  The three coffee-lovers began to discuss how different coffee brewing methods created a variety of flavors that could complement the taste of various foods.
Combining Chef Aimal’s culinary talent with Chocolate Fish Coffee’s high-quality beans seemed to be a match made in food heaven. Coffee lover or not, this is a one-of-a-kind dinner party you won’t want to miss.
Tickets are $50 each and seating is limited to 30 guests so make your reservations now at (916) 710–1023 or by visiting the newest  Chocolate Fish Coffee location at 4749 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA.

When: Saturday, July 27th at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Chocolate Fish, 4749 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA

What better way to celebrate the first weekend in spring than with some good sips and tastings! Here is a quick round-up of a few events that are sure to get the spring season started off on the right foot:
Revolution Wines—Friday Night Specials! Believe it or not, each week, Revolution Wines puts together a delicious wine/entrée pairing for only $15! Stop in from 5-10 p.m. every Friday to see what they’re serving up! On tonight’s menu: Cioppino with a glass of 2011 Zinfandel.
Philanthropic Beer Tasting—Whole Foods Market in Roseville will be hosting a beer tasting event ($15 per person) and all proceeds will be going to the store’s non-profit, Whole Planet Foundation. The tasting will have three different start times (5, 6, and 7 p.m.) for you to participate. Sounds like a win-win to us!
Spring Tasting Menu at The Grange—Debuting this Saturday, The Grange’s seasonal menu includes a fabulous gourmet three-course meal with a glass of wine for $40. Click here to see the menu.
Champagne Brunch Cruise—The Empress Hornblower will be featuring a relaxing Sunday itinerary: Floating down the gorgeous Sacramento River with a glass of bubbly and gourmet brunch buffet, with live entertainment on the boat. Revolution Wines Celebrates Midtown Grand Opening

November 19, 2010 by SacFoodies

Beginning today, Revolution Wines, Midtown Sacramento’s only urban winery, will be raising a glass to its new digs on 2831 S Street.  The 5,600 square foot facility houses the winery’s entire winemaking process – from crush to bottle, and features a new indoor/outdoor tasting room and bistro with food by Executive Chef Simone McKinley.
Grand opening festivities run through Sunday and include new wine releases, gourmet food and wine pairings, barrel tastings and cellar tours.  A full schedule of happenings can be found on their website.
A few weekends ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Revolution Wines for a private event during their soft opening and immediately made a mental note to add it to my short list of go-to happy hour spots.  But the winery will appeal to more than just the happy hour crowd.  At the conclusion of the private event, the tasting room and bistro opened to the public and brought in anyone from young families ordering from the local and seasonal lunch menu to couples enjoying a glass of wine while lounging in the tasting area.

Lunch menu offerings include a selection of seasonal soups, salads and sandwiches.  As a vegetarian, the menu item I’m most looking forward to trying is the Curried Tofu Salad Sandwich featuring curried tofu, shredded carrots, celery, raisins, pine nuts and spinach atop a sourdough baguette.  The lunch menu is offered Tuesday – Friday from 11am – 2pm and the evening menu is available Tuesday – Sunday from 4pm -9pm.
