Don’t forget that the Sacramento Mobile Food Festival (SactoMoFo) is tomorrow, Saturday, April 30 from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Fremont Park!
The festival was founded to help celebrate the national food truck trend and raise awareness about the issues blocking food trucks from thriving in Sacramento. The event is FREE to attend and free valet bike parking will be available to those of you who chose to bike to the event, courtesy of SABA.
Some of the event vendors include: Mini Burger Truck, Spencer on the Go, Sweetface Bakery, Chocolate Fish Coffee, Curry Up Now, Yogurtagogo and Chairman Bro Bun Truck, along with Sacramento taco trucks, a homemade ice cream vendor from Davis, and many more!
For the complete list of vendors, visit: www.sactomofo.com. We hope to see you there!
Giving Back This Holiday Season
It’s important to give back to the community and those in need, especially during the holiday season. So, we’ve compiled a list of a few non-profit organizations that could use your help! Don’t have the funds to donate? That’s okay! Go online or call one of the organizations below and donate your time.
SacFoodies is a proud partner of the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. In fact, 100 percent of the profits from sales of SacFoodies gear will be donated to support the organization’s vital services. Click here to purchase SacFoodies gear. It also makes a great gift!
Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS): Over 400 families from the SFBFS have created holiday wish lists for their children. Contact Genevieve to request a list of holiday wishes including food, clothing and books for families in need. You can also help by posting this flyer at work or school. Check out this FAQ sheet for more details. Update: There are 25 families that still need to be adopted! Deadline is this Friday, December 17th.
Share Our Strength’s “No Kid Hungry Campaign”: This season, just $1 can help connect a child with 10 healthy meals. Please consider donating – every dollar will help ensure that no child in the United States goes hungry.
Feeding America: Looking for a meaningful holiday gift for a friend or family member this year? Honor them by giving a gift in their name to feed families facing hunger across America.
Meals on Wheels Association of America: Donate to help End Senior Hunger in America by 2020. Gifts are worth double until December 31 with the MOWAA Foundation Holiday Match!
‘Tis the Season for Giving Thanks – and Giving Back
Those of you who follow our blog regularly know that we write about all things food – recipes that impress us, our own kitchen foibles, restaurant reviews, food trends – pretty much anything food-related that catches our fancy.
Last year, we partnered with a food-related charity, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS), because thinking and writing about food just wasn’t enough. We felt the need to act, to support those in our community who lacked the very food we so fondly describe in our posts.
Join us in supporting Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services during this holiday season. There are many ways to help, and no offering is too small:
- Turkey Drive 7,000: Drive by and drop off a turkey (or two or ten!) this Friday, November 19 between 4:30 AM – 7:00 PM at 3333 Third Avenue, Sacramento CA 95817. This year’s goal is to provide 7,000 turkeys to families in need.
- Adopt-a-Family: Over 1,000 children from 400 families who regularly attend SFBFS programs need your help to make Christmas a very special one. E-mail Genevieve Deignan at [email protected] to request a family’s holiday wish list.
- Run to Feed the Hungry: In our house, no Thanksgiving would be complete without participating in this iconic Sacramento Thanksgiving morning run/walk that benefits those in need. Join in the special feeling that this morning brings by signing up to run or walk – or organize a team. More information at www.runtofeedthehungry.com.
- Holiday Spirit of Giving Donation Drive: Help collect food and winter clothing for families in need by asking your company or organization to participate. More information here.
- Toys and Cold Weather Clothing: Donate new toys and stuffed animals at the Oak Park facility now through Friday, December 17th. In addition, winter coats, jackets, socks, gloves, scarves and boots are especially needed as the weather gets cooler. Donate Monday-Friday 8 AM-4:30 PM and Wednesdays 8 AM-7 PM. Contact (916) 456-1980 or [email protected] for donation questions.
- Donate: If you don’t have time to collect canned goods, clean out your closet, or shop for a family, then considering donating money. SFBFS turns every dollar it receives into $10 worth of goods and services that go directly to our community. Click here to donate.

“Smash Hunger” at Smashburger
Did you know that May is National Burger Month? To celebrate, Smashburger has partnered with our friends at the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services in an effort to “Smash Hunger!” All month long, Smashburger guests are asked to bring in non-perishable food items to donate to SFBFS. There will be a large bin inside the restaurant where diners can drop off their food contributions anytime between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.
In addition to partnering with SFBFS, Smashburger will be running a tasty special May 10th through May 13th – order a Smashburger and get a side of Smashfries for free! For those of you new to the Smashburger experience, it’s home to multiple burgers, the Smashchicken, salads, hot dogs, milkshakes and more.
Head over to Smashburger this month for good food and a good cause!
