It’s here! The season you’ve all been waiting for: fig season.
I recently purchased a small basket of figs (coincidentally, the California Fig Advisory Board is one of our clients) and was left wondering, “Now what?” I was torn: Should I use their powers to create a decadent dessert? Or take advantage of their honey-like sweetness to cut sharper, savory flavors? I mulled over my dilemma while sipping a glass of wine and finally decided, “I am starving.” I consumed half of the basket in less than 10 minutes and resolved to spend the remainder of the night looking up recipes so that next time, the pricey plump fruit served more of a…culinary purpose.
I found hundreds of recipes that called for figs; narrowing it down to five was the true challenge – especially since I wanted to craft a list that contained both sweet and savory recipes. The final product is below and it’s hard to imagine any of these dishes not being an absolute smash at your next gathering, or quiet night in. Cheers!
1. Pizza with Figs, Ricotta, Thyme and Honey
2. Fig and Gorgonzola Crostinis
3. Salted Caramel Chocolate Figs
4. Brie & Bacon Grilled Cheese with Fig Jam
5. Salted Honey and Fig Cheesecake
We’d love to hear from you – what’s your favorite way to fix a fig?
