My grandma used to make these yummy brownies for me when I was a kid. They are a pan full of rich, chocolaty goodness. And, the best part of all is that when my grandma handed down her much-loved recipe box a few years ago, "Linda's Brownies" were front and center on a chocolate-smudged recipe card - now that's a real treat!
Brownies
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 cup cocoa
1/2 cup veg. oil
1 cup water
1 stick butter
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine flour, sugar, salt and soda. Set aside. Combine cocoa, oil, water and butter in sauce pan. Bring to boil. Pour over flour mixture and mix well. Add eggs, buttermilk and vanilla and mix well. Bake 20 minutes.
Icing
1/4 cup butter
3 tbsp. cocoa
3 tbsp. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
Combine butter, cocoa and buttermilk in saucepan. Bring to boiling. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and powdered sugar. Beat till smooth. Pour warm frosting over brownies. Cool on wire rack.
