Many Sacramentans may know that Morton’s has been a long-time resident of the area, but did you know that Morton’s recently made the move from 521 L Street over to 621 Capitol Mall? Thanks to an invitation from their friendly staff, I was able to attend a sneak preview of the new location for lunch. As a first-timer at Morton’s, I was equally impressed with the décor and the food.
I knew what I was going to order the second I laid eyes on the menu – the Lobster Bisque to start and their Sliced New York Sirloin for my entrée. For my dining partner-in-crime, it would be the Colossal Shrimp Alexander followed by the Chicken Christopher. Truth be told, it didn’t really matter who ordered what, there was a mutual understanding that everything on the table would be fair game. After placing our order, we immediately dove into the massive bread round that graced our table.
The Lobster Bisque and Colossal Shrimp Alexander turned out to be a great way to start our lunch. The Bisque was both creamy and light, while the Colossal Shrimp truly stood up to its name – each shrimp was practically the size of my hand.
When our chicken and sirloin dishes arrived, we were almost too full to indulge. The sirloin was surprising as I didn’t realize we’d ordered a sandwich until it arrived. But with grilled onions and mushrooms, this sandwich was a pleasant surprise.
The Chicken Christopher was also delicious. Coated in bread crumbs and lightly sprinkled with lemon juice, this dish is a must-try. To be honest, we originally chose it because of the name – how can someone named Chris not order the Chicken Christopher?! That turned out to be a blessing in disguise – had I known what Chicken Christopher was before dining at Morton’s, I probably would have tried it anyways.
For dessert, we selected the Double Chocolate Mousse. It was both incredible and food coma-inducing. Enough said.
With the same great menu and a brand new home, Morton’s in downtown Sacramento is certainly one to keep in mind when planning business lunches or evenings out. Have you been to the new location? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below!

Speaking of restaurants that have moved does anyone know what happened to Fulton’s? They used to be in Old Sac and had an excellent menu however they seem to have disappeared.
Also have the Foodies written a review on The Cosmopolitan? I went there for dinner a few weeks ago and would be interested hear someone else’s experience as mine was not what I had hoped.

I would love to hear more about the atmosphere there. I know that this is not what they are known for, but I am just curious. Do you like the location or the room any better? I have always liked Morton’s (although, I always feel like I am my Dad when eating there).

Great questions, lostspartan77! I’m not sure what happened to Fulton’s in Old Sac – is it really not there anymore? I guess it’s been a while since I’ve ventured into Old Sacramento.
As far as The Comsopolitan goes, I went to their grand opening and liked the atmosphere but am yet to dine there. What was your experience like, if not what you had hoped? Any menu recommendations?

Fultons is gone… I tried to go there for dinner only to discover that the building has been abandoned. I loved the brick work in the patio and the fact that they offered dancing in the evenings. It made for a nice place to go for dinner and then hang out for the evening. Their Garlic Brie appetizer platter was amazing.
As for The Cosmopolitan based on my experience I unfortunately do not have many positive things to say.
The C3 Cosmo was a nice drink however I think they were about $9 each and I am not convinced they were worth it.
I ordered the Steak which was about $30 and as a proud member of the Don Shula 48oz club (http://www.donshula.com/48oz.php) I will say that I have eaten a lot of steak and the one they served was something I would expect to find at an Applebee’s or Denny’s. That was probably the first time in as long as I can remember that I cut a large strip of fat off of a steak at a restaurant.
The service was painfully slow at each step of the meal which I can understand if the restaurant was busy however this was around 9pm and they were not very crowded. It got to the point that I went to the bar on my own to order drink refills and spent a lot of time visually looking around the restaurant to try to find the waiter.
I will say that the Polenta Fritters, with the Parmesan fondue were fantastic and I was told that the Ahi Tuna was pretty good.
Having said that I will probably still go back at some point as the theater/night club/restaurant combo is pretty cool. Like the steak given the service and overall quality the $130 bill at the end of the meal was a little hard to swallow.

It’s never too late to make a second impression…
As I alluded to before a few nights ago I went back to The Cosmopolitan for an evening of dinner and dancing. This time both the food and service were much better then last time and well worth it.
We all started out drinking NotSoInnocents which are yummy drinks and a nice way to start a meal.
We ordered the Parmesan Fondue Polenta Fritters again and the Sausage/ Sauerkraut/Potato Small plate.
Both of these were excellent.
This time I ordered the Cornbeef and Cabbage and was very impressed by the quality of the dish.
We are already talking about making another trip however next time I want to try to time it so that we can go to the Cabaret after dinner.
