Some of the most fun we’ve had this fall and winter has been heading over to ARCO Arena to watch the Kings play. It’s exhilarating watching a young, talented team dribble and dunk, pass and shoot. And, despite a string of injuries and losses, we’re ever-the-hopeful fans. We’ve made it to seven games so far, and each time it seems we sample something new from the wide range and eclectic mix of food options that the arena has to offer.
This time, I was determined to trade in my King dog and try the Royal Shawarma that I’d seen featured in several programs. My family went for their usual pizzas, salted pretzels, French fries and Nibs, while I headed over to Section 101-102 to find out what this shawarma thing was.
I was happily surprised to discover that, yes, there is life beyond the sporting event hotdog. I was treated to a tasty spread that included slow roasted chicken, hummus, pita bread, salad and falafel. I must be honest: I cannot give up the French fries ARCO serves up, nor will I turn my back on a cone of Zebra popcorn. But I have found a new, more healthful favorite.
ARCO offers much in the way of food – even fine dining at its Skyline restaurant. We’re having fun sampling the varied food offerings, while supporting our Sacramento Kings. Our next trip to ARCO Arena: the Kings v. the Dallas Mavericks, and I’m thinking of heading over to Section 107 to sample the Asian rice bowls and salads!
Drop me a line and tell me about your go-to Kings cuisine.

I’m going to the game tomorrow and the shawarma plate is now on my food list! It’s about time hummus made its way to fan fare.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a King’s game without getting the soft-serve ice cream. No, this isn’t frozen yogurt – but real thick and creamy ice cream with your choice of toppings mixed in. I usually go for the Oreos, while my boyfriend tends to stick with the Butterfinger pieces. Either way – they are so good! Calories don’t count at King’s games, right?

It’s nice to hear there are now alternatives to hotdogs, nachos and candy! I’ll be sure to check out the shawarma plate next time I’m there. As I get older, I just can’t stomach the usual options. It’s also nice to show kids there are alternatives available (without leaving out the traditional foods which is fun!). It would behoove the Kings to show they care about the diet of the their fans and promote healthier eating.

I got the shawarma plate the other night (Kings/Orlando game) and I’ll definitely go back for it again. I was also on the hunt for zebra popcorn and couldn’t find it anywhere! I will find it someday. oh yes, I will.

I’m a fan of the Gavin Burrito, medium, with sour cream. You can only find it one place in Arco and I can’t remember the name.
