Breaking Foodie News!
Last week we shared our excitement about the possibility of Pinkberry coming to Sacramento and now we’re really happy to hear that one of our favorite breakfast-on-the-way-to-work / mid-day-pick-me-up /afternoon snack options (okay, anytime really!) will be bulking up on the food offerings. Jamba Juice has announced that they will be adding baked goods, ready-made wraps, sandwiches and salads to the menu starting next Wednesday! Jamba already carries oatmeal and limited baked goods including pretzels (Jenna recommends the Apple-Cinnamon while Britt prefers the Parmesan) and pastries. The food will begin appearing in California stores on June 15 and will eventually expand to Jamba’s 732 nationwide locations. (Above photo courtesy of Flickr user Joshua Bakaitus).
Tightwad Tuesday: McCormick & Schmick’s 10 Under $10 (Win a Dining Certificate too!)
We’ve mentioned before that McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants is a client of ours and we love that we now have two great locations to choose from. Whether you work downtown or are shopping at the Fountains, a great lunch for under $10 can be found at McCormick & Schmick’s. They have 10 daily selections from sandwiches and entrée salads to pastas and soups. Speaking of soups, if it’s on the menu, you have to try their Potato and Blue Cheese Soup. It is truly heaven in a bowl.
If you are like me and don’t always have time to take to a long lunch, McCormick & Schmick’s can get you in and out in 45 minutes…just let your waiter know when you arrive.
So, while 10 items at McCormick & Schmick’s is a great Tightwad Tuesday find, a free $10 dining certificate is even better. That’s right…it’s giveaway time! Please comment below about what your favorite seafood dish is and we’ll randomly select a winner to receive a $10 lunchtime dining certificate courtesy of McCormick & Schmick’s – but hurry, we will select a winner on Thursday at noon!
Try this Thai
As a former Davis resident, I find a strange sense of pride as great new restaurants and shops continue to populate the downtown landscape. One of Davis’ newest additions caught my eye recently when a friend described it as “Thai restaurant by day, club by night.” A nightclub in Davis? It can’t be so.
But it is! Perhaps more exciting than the fact that Ketmoree keeps Davis’ blood pumping into the late night hours with a stylish bar and DJ is the fact that the food there is really, really tasty! I first dined at Ketmoree for lunch over a month ago and have literally craved the Spicy Tome Kah (Coconut soup with mushroom, green onion, and cilantro) ever since.
My dining partner in crime (aka my Mom) also treated me to the 2K Thai Lettuce Wraps which were equally tasty with a light and refreshing profile.
Lastly, we feasted on the Yum Nua (Grilled beef tenderloin, red onion, green onion, cilantro pitched with a mild lime dressing). How could we not order something with “yum” in the name? It certainly lived up to our expectations.
Shh! Don’t tell anyone, but rumor has it that plans are in the works for a Ketmoree in Sacramento too! An insider told us that we’re still a good one or two years away from that, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed in the meantime.

Tickled Pink(berry)!
Could it be true?! I just read in the Sac Bee that Pinkberry (worth visiting for the catchy Pinkberry remix) may be coming to Sacramento. I first enjoyed the trendy Hollywood treat in San Diego (no, not Hollywood – they’re everywhere but Sac!) with one of my favorite Austin colleagues. We were staffing a conference at the Convention Center and I spotted the location across the street. For days we walked by and I said we HAD to try it before we left. Finally, on the way out of town, I jumped out curbside while Allison did laps in the rental car. We were not disappointed. My perfect combination is the original (described on the Pinkberry web site as “soft swirls of chilly bliss with a distinct pouty peak”) with raspberries and chocolate chips (raspberry and chocolate is pretty much my favorite combination for any dessert). I’ve since enjoyed the treat in New York City and at Santana Row in San Jose.
For the record, I fell in love with “tart” yogurt growing up in San Jose. Sweet Retreat is the one food stop I must make every time I visit home. What do I dream of when I’m not in town? You guessed it – original with raspberries and M&M’s. It’s so different than any other yogurt shop I’ve ever visited. The yogurt and toppings of choice are thrown in to a giant (and very loud) mixing machine that combines all the ingredients until it spews out a perfectly blended treat guaranteeing your favorite flavors in every bite. Yogurt heaven.
As for local tart yogurt, I was lucky enough to stumble on Top This! in the R Street Corridor following a yummy dinner at Burgers and Brew a couple weeks ago. I was thrilled to see sour vanilla on the menu and topped it with raspberries and DARK chocolate chips. It was delish and will definitely satisfy my tart yogurt craving locally…until Pinkberry comes!
