Having lived in Land Park for well over 7 years now, I’m a little embarrassed that it’s taken me this long to try Café Dantorels in neighboring Curtis Park. This café has been on my “to try” list for years and I finally had just the right opportunity to walk over on a recent Saturday for lunch.
Entering the restaurant, I was surprised by the large space and abundance of seating options, both indoors and out. We ordered at the counter, grabbed our number, snagged a sunny patio table and settled in.
I enjoyed the Amsterdam Chicken Burger which came complete with all the fixins’ including cheddar cheese and bacon – plus a side of fries, of course. My dining companion was in a brunch mood and selected the Athens Scramble with spinach, mushrooms, onions and feta cheese, along with house potatoes and toast on the side.
The meals hit the spot and the ambiance was perfect for a leisurely Saturday afternoon meal. We walked back to Land Park with bellies full. I’ll definitely be returning to Dantorels in the near future!

SLICED: A Celebration of All Things Pizza
A celebration of all things pizza, you say? I, for one, LOVE pizza, (refer to “favorite food” in my SacFoodies bio), so I knew that I immediately needed to get the details on this Sacramento pizza celebration.
Over the next week or so, the SLICED Pizza Celebration will bring Sacramento pizza-lovers a wealth of opportunities to enjoy some of the best pizza the area has to offer, including slices from SacFoodies favorites like Federalist Public House & Beer Garden, Hot Italian, Masullo (my personal Land Park neighborhood pizza staple), Chicago Fire, Buffalo Pizza, Urbano and more.
From October 17th – 25th, these local pizzerias and more will be celebrating and demonstrating their craft for all to enjoy. From nightly specials, to chef competitions, instructional courses and even a bike pizza tour with Sac Brew Bike, there’s a pizza party for every personality, including the kids. Highlights include:
- Family Pizza Making Class at Federalist on Saturday, October 17th, plus an all-day special menu benefitting the Food Literacy Center
- New Helvetia & Buffalo Pizza event on Sunday, October 18th
- Stuff Yourself Pizza Eating Competition at Chicago Fire on October 20th
- Pizza Crawls on the Sac Brew Bike on October 24th
SLICED will be posting more details over the coming days on the SLICED event Facebook page, so be sure to check there for updates.
Wordless Wednesday: Crazy Crab’z Sandwich from AT&T Park
Giants fans agree that the $17 is worth it for the fresh Dungeness crab sandwich on garlic-butter brushed grilled Sourdough. My advice: share it with a Giants-loving friend!
Togo’s is now in Midtown!
Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good sandwich. Since Togo’s has now opened a location in midtown, I’ve even been motivated enough to get in the car during work hours to head over there to get a sammy. And, anyone who knows me also knows that I really like to win free stuff. So while at Togo’s a few weeks back, I of course dropped my business card in the fishbowl at the register, hoping that I might win what I thought would be a free sandwich.
Imagine my surprise when a representative from Togo’s called me at work to let me know that I was a winner…and not the winner of a free sandwich, but the winner of a free sandwich tray! How cool is that? A few days later I stopped by and picked up a delicious tray of Togo’s sammies which many of my fellow SacFoodies enjoyed for lunch.
Thanks Togo’s!
