Downtown Ice Rink Opens This Friday
This Friday marks the start of the 22nd year of one of Sacramento’s favorite holiday traditions: the opening of the downtown ice rink. To celebrate, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership is hosting a free community skate day on Friday at noon at the rink located at 701 K Street.
Can’t make it until after work? No problem. The rink stays open until 10 p.m.
Watch for special promotions throughout the holiday season, like Tuesday Family Skate Nights, theme nights every Thursday and My58 Fridays featuring half-off skate rentals.
But the best promotion might be on Mondays when from 4-8 p.m. you can bring a receipt from any downtown restaurant and get a free skate rental in exchange.
Happy Holidays!
Trucktoberfest in West Sacramento
The SacFoodies love a good food truck, (as evidenced here and here), and we’re also fans of great beer, (which we’ve mentioned here and here), which is why we’re loving the sound of this upcoming event. Trucktoberfest, taking place this Saturday, October 5th at River Walk Park in West Sacramento, will combine more than 20 local food trucks, a beer garden and live music – which sounds to us like the makings of a near-perfect Saturday afternoon. Not to mention that this event also benefits a bevy of great organizations, including the American Red Cross, West Sacramento Parks and Recreation, and the Yolo County Food Bank. And…admission is free! To learn more about Trucktoberfest, visit www.sactomofo.com or the Trucktoberfest 2013 Facebook page.
Wordless Wednesday: Duck Fat Chex Mix
Yep – you read that right! We were lucky enough to receive a sample of Duck Fat Chex Mix from our friends at Tasting Table. If you decide to try the recipe at home, we recommend you enlist some friends to help you enjoy because we guarantee that once you try it, you won’t be able to stop!
Sacramento Connect Presents Readings from Chris Macias and Hank Shaw
On Wednesday, March 6, two popular local food writers, Chris Macias, food and wine writer for the Sacramento Bee, and Hank Shaw, author of Hunter Angler Gardener Cook, will conduct a reading at Bows & Arrows. Macias and Shaw will each read their pieces which were selected for Da Capo’s Best Food Writing 2012.
After the reading, attendees are invited to read their own short food-related pieces (2-4 minutes) during the open mic portion. Free appetizers will be served featuring some of Shaw’s recipes.
This event is part of a new monthly open mic reading night, “Words Aloud,” at Bows & Arrows. Sacramento Connect and the Bee designed the events to help local Sacramento writers and bloggers share their work with one another, and the general public.
