Attention hop-loving foodies – there’s an innovative new brewery in town! Bike Dog Brewery opens its doors this weekend for their grand opening celebration on Saturday, November 2 from 2:00 to 9:30 p.m. Not only is Bike Dog Brewery one of West Sacramento’s few breweries, it is also the only one in town with a tasting room. Now you can try before you buy these specialty taps.
“Hop” on over to this weekend’s event to enjoy their expanded tap list, food from Drewski’s and local music. And if you ride your bike, there is a free bike valet service, courtesy of Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates.
Bike Dog is founded by four Sacramentans with a love for bikes, dogs and exceptionally fresh craft beer. In an effort to keep their beer as fresh as possible, they will operate a three-barrel brew house on site. The small size of this brew house means that only small batches can be brewed at a time, ensuring that the beer is always fresh and the recipes innovative.
Can’t make it to the event this weekend? Follow them on Facebook and Twitter to keep up on latest news, or stop in during their business hours from 5:00 – 9:30 p.m. on Fridays and 2:00 – 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays.

Enjoy fall flavor at OneSpeed Pizza
As a midtown resident, I must say that my trips to East Sacramento were once few and far between (minus occasional stop at Trader Joe’s). However, as of late, one neighborhood eatery is drawing me to the other side of the freeway with its quaint atmosphere and delicious eats.
While OneSpeed Pizza is most notably known for their pizza (hence the name), it was the Autumn Salad I enjoyed on a recent visit that has me craving another trip. My plate was filled with hearty and seasonal fall flavors, yet still light enough to leave room for a pizza pie. Winter squash, pancetta, radicchio, mushrooms and celery root are all tossed perfectly in a light balsamico. This was my first time trying celery root and I loved the consistency it added to the salad.
Of course, you’d be remiss to stop by without ordering a pizza. The classic Margherita pie is a sure fire selection and will undoubtedly leave you satisfied. Just the right amount of sauce, melted mozzarella, fresh basil and a crisp crust–perfection!

Trucktoberfest in West Sacramento
The SacFoodies love a good food truck, (as evidenced here and here), and we’re also fans of great beer, (which we’ve mentioned here and here), which is why we’re loving the sound of this upcoming event. Trucktoberfest, taking place this Saturday, October 5th at River Walk Park in West Sacramento, will combine more than 20 local food trucks, a beer garden and live music – which sounds to us like the makings of a near-perfect Saturday afternoon. Not to mention that this event also benefits a bevy of great organizations, including the American Red Cross, West Sacramento Parks and Recreation, and the Yolo County Food Bank. And…admission is free! To learn more about Trucktoberfest, visit www.sactomofo.com or the Trucktoberfest 2013 Facebook page.
