The SacFoodies are celebrating our 6th anniversary next week! Our theme for our annual potluck this year is “America’s Farm to Fork Capital,” so of course we’ll be toasting with a local brew. The dilemma? Too many great local beers to choose from! Help us decide which beer keg to enjoy for our special occasion by leaving a comment below and letting us know your favorite local brew. Cheers!

September is Food Literacy Month
What is Food Literacy? It’s rooted in the same ideals as the “Farm-to-Fork” movement, but food literacy essentially refers to having an understanding of the impact our food choices make on our health, environment and community. This month, you can finally join the movement and get a real taste of what Food Literacy is all about!
For this month and this month only, 55 area restaurants have signed up to participate in this EatSmart: Dine & Donate Campaign to benefit the California Food Literacy Center. The center works to provide youth education programs to teach healthy eating habits and sustainability basics from an early age.
For every ticket purchased, these restaurants will donate a dollar to the cause. We checked out the list and were pleasantly surprised to see not only the variety, but the quality! Check out the list of participating restaurants here. So, if you needed another reason to eat out this week… you’re welcome!
Wordless Wednesday: Hock Farm’s Bottled & Bubbled Cocktails
The bottled cocktails at Hock Farm are my new favorite thing. The refreshing Gin and Tonic and the enticing Rum & Soda (with house made cream soda!) are serving farm fresh realness with a kick right now, but watch out for other seasonal shifts that’ll rub you the right way, too.

Gold Rush Beer Crawl
Interested in slowing it down this Labor Day weekend? How about kicking things off with a crawl… the Gold Rush Beer Crawl that is. This Friday, August 30, the Capitol City will be turning back the clock in Old Sacramento for the third annual Gold Rush Beer Crawl, as part of the 13th Annual Gold Rush Days weekend.
Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight, you can enjoy a 6-9 oz. glass of crisp beer at 9 different establishments for just $10, while enjoying dancing, street dramas, wagon rides, gold panning, horse-drawn carriage rides, crafts and more along the way.
Escape reality by coming dressed as a gold miner, gunfighter or saloon girl – we hear you will get the best service if you dress the part!
Don’t miss the opportunity to get your ticket as they are selling quickly. Purchase tickets online at Eventbrite, or at one of the venues in advance.
Davis Bike and Brew Fest
I grew up in Davis, the bicycle capitol of the United States, so naturally it doesn’t faze me that the town would have a community-wide celebration to raise funds for the United States Bicycle Hall of Fame (located in Davis, of course). But when I heard that they were having a Bike and Brew Fest, as part of a larger Davis Beer Week to raise money for the Bicycle Hall of Fame, I was definitely surprised.
Knowing how fun a Davis festival can be from my childhood memories, I definitely will not be missing this exciting benefit. This Saturday, August 24 from 3:30 to 8:00 pm in Davis’s Central Park I invite you to “hop” on over to the bicycling capitol of the United States with me to take part in this exciting, one-of-a-kind event and taste beer for a good cause.
The evening festivities will include live music from three different bands, local food, children’s’ activities, beer from 50 breweries and wine from 10 wineries! Whether you are looking to taste the various craft libations, be a designated driver or take part in the entertainment, there is something for everyone at this one-of-a-kind event.
Tickets include access to the park and entertainment as well as a glass of beer and one complementary wine tasting. Ride your bike, or have a designated driver take you over to Davis and see what my hometown has to offer. Buy your tickets here today.
