Red Rabbit Kitchen & Bar, most commonly referred to as simply ‘Red Rabbit,’ is a Midtown favorite and, until recently, I had only visited to check out the Happy Hour. But when a friend came to town last weekend, I was determined to take her to a place that was uniquely Sacramento—and Red Rabbit is just that.
We waited for our table by enjoying a few delicious cocktails available from the open and welcoming bar. I chose a Moscow Mule and my friend selected her standard Manhattan. Not only did the Moscow Mule quench my thirst, but it was served in a copper “old Dutch” style mug—which I loved.
The variety of options available for dinner made selecting our entrees difficult, but we decided to each get something different and share. I chose the Farro Risotto with fresh leeks and wild mushrooms, which was fresh, delicious and hearty. My dining partner chose the Shorty Melt, an outstanding sandwich with short rib meat that was cooked to perfection, and the melted cheddar paired with the Cajun remoulade left us both full and happy! With the weather slowly warming up in Sacramento, I know I’ll be back soon to enjoy the fantastic patio space.
If you’re looking for a unique dining environment with a contemporary and truly Sacramento vibe, be sure to check out Red Rabbit Kitchen & Bar.

Harvest Sacramento Happy Hour at Grange
It’s Friday and there is no better way I can think to close out the week than with a good happy hour.
We’ve been fans of the custom cocktail creations at Grange for quite some time, as you see from our previous SacFoodies posts, here and here. But what makes their latest specialty happy hour unique is that it is benefiting a really great cause!
Harvest Sacramento is an initiative of Soil Born Farms and seeks to use underutilized produce to keep the produce from going to waste. All proceeds from the specialty cocktail creations will go to support this cause and the produce used in the drinks was picked by volunteers from Sacramento-area trees!
Best part of this happy hour special? The custom drinks will be featured at Grange for the remainder of March and all proceeds will continue to benefit Harvest Sacramento throughout the month.
Meyer Lemon Black Pepper, Almost Spring Sangria and Pomelo Punch (which serves two and is served out of a Sacramento-grown Pomelo) are the delicious drink options available to get you ready for the spring season here in Sacramento.
Stop by the Grange during the month of March Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m. to try the Harvest Sacramento specialty cocktails and support the cause.
Cheers.

Local Craft Beer Scene Celebrates with 4th Annual Sacramento Beer Week
Beer fans, you’re in luck! The 4th Annual Sacramento Beer Week is kicking off next week and bringing with it not only some tasty events, but also a celebration of a rising Sacramento star—our craft beer scene.
Sacramento Beer Week will be taking place from February 22- March 3, with events happening all over town. The lineup includes tasting events and dinners at hot spots like Rubicon Brewing Company, Mulvaney’s B&L, Ten 22, and The Porch, tap takeovers with local favorites like Ruhstaller at Old Soul and even tastings at various Nugget Markets. The week culminates with the Capital Beerfest on Saturday, March 2 at Cal Expo at which attendees can sample from 100 breweries with proceeds benefiting the Runnin’ for Rhett foundation. Click here to view all of the Sacramento Beer Week events and follow Sacramento Beer Week on Facebook for easy access to event details.
Not only does Sacramento Beer Week signify the opportunity to taste many different brews, it is also a chance to celebrate our local beer culture. Sacramento has ten beer producers within the city, eight new breweries are scheduled to open this year and we are less than an hour away from 15 other breweries! We even have a new magazine in town, Hops to Table, which keeps readers in the know of the local craft beer scene. Sacramento’s passion for local, even in the beer space, gives us another notch on our proverbial belt as America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital.
Yesterday, fellow SacFoodie Sarah and I stopped by Pour House for their Beer Cocktails event to preview Sacramento Beer Week. We enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy some local brews and watch various bartenders from around town create their own custom cocktails using beer!
Sacramento Beer Week is sure to be a blast and we hope you get the chance to get out and enjoy some of the fun filled events! Cheers.
Celebrating Sacramento’s Locally Grown Food Scene
Back in October, we were pleased to share Sacramento’s newest designation as America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital. With 2013 underway, The City of Trees is continuing to get the recognition it deserves as a hot spot for great fare and an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients.
In fact, The San Francisco Chronicle recently covered Sacramento’s efforts to outshine its “cow town” reputation and take its rightful place as a bona fide foodie destination. Our prime geographic location was cited for allowing Sacramento chefs and diners to enjoy a robust array of locally produced meat, poultry, fish and produce.
We loved reading that the delicious assortment of ingredients available, paired with urban gardens and schoolyard projects are luring culinary stars to the area, such as Mark Liberman of San Francisco’s AQ, who is planning to open a new restaurant in Sacramento and says “The city has finally come into its own.”
Thinking of the next spot to try for dinner on the town? The article also called out several area restaurants that strive to use farm fresh ingredients, including Entoria, Roxy, The Kitchen, Kru, Grange, Mulvaney’s B&L and Ella.
