Will You Race for the Rock this year?
Win a $20,000 diamond ring by participating in this year’s Race for the Rock, a text message-based treasure hunt that raises funds to benefit programs at Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services (an FH client).
On June 5th at 10 a.m., teams of two will embark on a race through downtown Sacramento, on bike or on foot, in search of clues that will lead to the final prize – a $20,000 Hearts on Fire diamond solitaire ring! To be a part of this great event, register online here and pay the entry fee of $40 per team. 100% of the entry fee benefits Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services!
Each team entry includes:
- A chance to win diamond jewelry from Hearts on Fire and A. Jaffe, jewelry from Pandora, watches from TAG Heuer, Tissot, Seiko and Bulova.
- Two Race for the Rock t-shirts
- Access to the “After Party” at House Kitchen and Bar where a full-plate lunch will be provided, including their Carolina-style pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw and baked beans! We’ve been to House many a time and highly recommend it – a few dishes we’ve tried are the 5 cheese elbow mac ‘n cheese, the drunken chicken salad and the black bean burger – delish!

Tightwad Tuesday: Do You Groupon?
If you’re like me and love a great bargain, you are going to love Groupon! For those of you unfamiliar with Groupon, it’s a Website that features daily deals on the best stuff to do, see, buy and eat in various cities across the U.S. and in Canada. We’ve been anxiously waiting for Groupon to make its way to Sacramento and couldn’t be happier that the deals are officially here to stay!
Here’s the catch- you can only get the daily deal if the required amount of people sign up for that same deal, that same day. This means that telling your friends and spreading the word is crucial to your bargain-hunting success on Groupon!
You can get daily deals on admission prices to museums, show tickets, spa services and can even buy a Groupon as a gift for someone else.
And for all you foodies, just last month Groupon, Sacramento was offering $25 worth of Ethiopian cuisine and drinks at Queen Sheba for only $10! Now that sounds like my kind of deal!
We love a good food bargain and are standing by for more to come from Groupon, Sacramento!
Have you had success with Groupon yet? Leave us a comment and tell us what you bought!
Grange, Sacramento
Last week, fellow SacFoodie Brittany and I were lucky enough to be invited to a Farmer’s Market tour and lunch hosted by Chef Michael Tuohy of the much-praised Grange restaurant here in Sacramento. We joined a group of local “food enthusiasts” including Kimberley of Poor Girl Eats Well, Kristy of Cakegrrrl, Jonathan of Sacramento Press, Ann Rolke of Sacatomato, Greg of SacRag, Leigh Anne Keys of FOX 40 and the gals from Sacramento News & Review and Midtown Monthly for a tour of the Cesar Chavez Park Farmer’s Market from Chef Tuohy. The Chef pointed out his favorite vendors along the way, including Joe Gotelli & Sons cherries, Del Real Date Farm, Bariani Olive Oils and many more.
After the Farmer’s Market tour, we were treated to a beautiful lunch prepared by Chef Tuohy using the ingredients he had just picked up at the market – it doesn’t get any fresher than that! Our meal began with a amuse bouche of Spring Onion Soup with Crème fresh and chives, a perfect palate cleanser for what was to come.
The soup was followed by a spring asparagus salad with marinated beets, shaved jack cheese and local Bariani olive oil. The salad was just light enough that we were ready for more when the beautiful spring risotto arrived, which included peas, artichokes, asparagus and morel mushrooms – yum!
Finally, when we almost didn’t think we could take another bite, Pastry Chef Elaine Baker wowed us with a delicious fresh strawberry crostada with crème fresh and caramel sauce. Needless to say, there wasn’t a crumb left on our plates.
Thank you to Grange restaurant, Chef Tuohy and Elaine Baker for arranging this special treat!
