This week’s finds feature a bounty of local produce, (not so) mini burgers, a taco salad bowl and some almonds we can’t get enough of.
Beautiful, fresh produce
A couple of “Cowbells” from Krush Burger. These mini burgers are loaded with bacon, onion straws, BBQ sauce and smoked Gouda.
Taco Salad Bowl with carnitas from La Posada
We can’t stop eating these flavored almonds from Winters Fruit Tree! We recommend the sesame flavor but feel free to give any of their 40 flavors a try.
The Capitol Mall Farmers’ Market takes place every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., May through September.
Check back next Thursday for more of our favorite “Farm to Office” finds.

Farm to Office! This week’s farmers' market finds
by Brittany Gillmor and Sara Ortega
This week’s Capitol Mall Farmers’ Market finds come ultra-fresh and delicious, courtesy of Bare Juices.
Brittany: I opted for the Green Supreme, a blend of kale, cucumber, celery, apple, parsley, lemon and ginger. After a few days of airport and stadium fare, this juice was exactly what the bod needed!
Sara: My sweet tooth couldn’t resist the Strawberry Lemonade! It was such a refreshing treat, packed with strawberry, orange, lemon and apple.
As you’re trying to keep cool this summer, search for local juices like those from Bare Juices and you won’t regret it.
Cheers!
Downtown Farmers' Market Is Back!
As we’ve mentioned many a time, SacFoodies love farmers’ markets. So naturally, we were all thrilled that today marked the official start to the Downtown Farmers’ Market summer season. Every Thursday from 10am-2pm, the market sets up shop along Capitol Mall, and challenges all of us to make the hardest decision of the day: where to eat.
This week’s big winner? Brick oven pizzas from The Pizza Company!
Wordless Wednesday: Capitol Mall Farmers' Market
On May 5th the Capitol Mall California-Grown Certified Farmers’ Market returned for summer.
The SacFoodies have been enjoying the market, which runs from May-September every Thursday from 10:00am – 1:30pm between 5th and 6th Street.
Capitol Mall was overflowing with local produce.
Lunch vendors include House, Ambrosia Cafe, 4th Street Grille, Yolanda’s Tamales, Golden Rice Bowl, Big Joe’s BBQ and Grateful Bread.
The market offers fruits, vegetables, baked goods, flowers, herbs, and cheeses.
Loving the Farmers’ Market
A few weeks ago, fellow SacFoodie Kris and I joined members of the San Francisco Professional Food Society on a tour of the Sacramento Farmers’ Market at 6th and X (you know, the one under the freeway). I’m embarrassed to say that I had yet to go to that particular market as I often hit up Downtown Plaza markets on Thursdays since it’s right by the office. While the Thursday market is good, the Sunday market is fantastic! From melons and peaches to fish and olive oil, they have you covered for fresh, direct-from-the-farmer food.
Last weekend I made my way back to the market, this time in pursuit of tomatoes. Specifically, cherry tomatoes from Watanabe Farms in West Sacramento. With two pints of tomatoes, extremely fragrant basil and bags full of other fresh produce, I headed home excited to see what I could concoct from all these fresh goodies. What I ended up with was a tomato, basil, garlic combo (basically bruschetta topping) that was excellent both mixed with angel hair pasta and atop freshly toasted French bread slices. I happily enjoyed this for three days and am counting the days to Sunday so that I can make this wonderful summer treat again.
2 pints cherry tomatoes, halved
1/4 cup basil, julienned
2 heaping tablespoons minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Salt and pepper to taste
1/3 cup olive oil
Mix together ingredients in a large bowl. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and marinate at room temperature for at least four hours.
