When it comes to dining out, I can be incredibly indecisive. Like, the kind of indecisive that really annoys your friends and family as you endlessly debate going here or there and eating this or that. But, when it comes to lunch on Thursdays, I know exactly where I want to go and exactly what I want to eat:
That would be “The Market” pizza from The Pizza Company at the Capitol Mall Farmers Market. Every creation that emerges from their Italian wood fired oven is delicious, but The Market is irrefutably the true star. Featuring farm fresh produce, The Market’s pizza toppings change weekly and the SacFoodies are always excited to see what unique offering is on deck.
To our delight, today’s menu featured Aidells Sun-dried Tomato & Kale Chicken Sausage, shaved red onions, mascarpone cheese and mushrooms. And was the pizza as delicious as it looks? Kale yeah!
A special thanks to my fellow SacFoodies for making this post happen—the witty Kari Clark for coining the phrase “kale yeah” when I asked if she was getting The Market today, and the kind Sara Ortega for resisting the first bite of her piping hot pizza so that she could help me snap photos of the beauty above.

Wordless Wednesday: Farmer’s Market in Embrun, France
Sacramento Farmer's Market
By Stephanie Rudy
Did you know there are 12 farmer’s markets in the Sacramento area per week? While I wasn’t able to make it to all 12 last week, I was able to stop by an old favorite.
The
In addition to fruits and vegetables, the market offers eggs and milk from nearby farms, and even flowers from locals like Frank!
Garlic doesn’t come much cheaper, and the flowers don’t get much fresher.
Dried arrangements are perfect for sprucing up your outdoor kitchen and add flavor to any bottle of olive oil.
Leaving empty handed is almost impossible, and the experience is unforgettable. With 12 per week in our own backyard, finding a farmer’s market this summer is easier than ever! For a complete list, visit http://www.california-grown.com/Market-times.html.
Thursday Capitol Mall Farmer’s Market
By Sara Ortega and Ana Marie Aguas
If there’s one event the SacFoodies look forward to this time of year, it’s the farmer’s market conveniently located right outside our office on Capitol Mall! We are always delighted every Thursday by the scent of grilling Indian cuisine, baking Italian pizza and some of the best food trucks in town, including, Krush Burger and Wicked ‘Wich.
It’s almost too good to be true! Some of the best fruit, vegetable, flower, herb and even artisan olive oil vendors offer their fine products for visitors to browse and purchase. Our personal favorite is the pistachio vendor that offers more than two dozen different pistachio flavors to fit any liking.
Market vendors are local and provide some truly unique and authentically grown products. Now through September 26, every Thursday, take a breath of fresh air and treat yourself to the ultimate Artisanal experience at the Capitol Mall Farmer’s Market.

Tucos Wine Market & Cafe, Davis
Tucos Wine Market and Café proved to be the perfect setting for good times amongst great people last weekend as a few friends and I finally found our way to the adorable restaurant and wine bar on G Street in Davis.
I’d heard the buzz surrounding Tucos from a few friends, including fellow foodie Jenna Kirkwood, who recommended it highly – so I knew it was time to see for myself. Tucos (pronounced two-coze) has been pleasing the taste buds of Davis residents since 2004 and now I know why!
We each started with a flight of choice, the perfect introduction into the unknown. If you’re into white wines, I recommend the “White Discovery” flight. For a red-favoring palate, try the “Old World Discovery.”
Of course we couldn’t leave without something to snack on, so we chose the Pradera Aged Gouda of Holland and a memorable (although I seem to have forgotten the name) Brie. The cheeses at Tucos are served in ounce-portions and come with ACME bread, oven-roasted almonds, dried fruit, sliced apple, and olive oil.
Overall, the atmosphere was delightful and the food and drinks were perfect. I will be returning at the next opportunity! Tucos can also be visited at the Davis Farmers’ Market on Wednesday nights. Click here for more information and definitely call ahead to make a reservation on weekend evenings!
